The canopy was Group G’s proposal for
YSOA's Building Project. When we connect to a place we’ve moved, we call it ‘putting down roots.’ Roots then is our approach to site. The
home mimics the robust Norway Maple: it
is rooted to the site, and expands upwards.
The privacy of the bottom floor is reinforced
by its solidity: this is a place to rest, close to
the comfort of the ground, emphasized by a
balance between enclosure and connection.
As one moves up the staircase, the space
opens up, like the branches of the tree.
As you reach the top of the stairs— you are
living in the canopy.
